Welcome to the CES Edinburgh summer school! We want you to have a great time and learn how to speak English, and find out more about Scottish culture. In lessons you will meet new students from across the world. During the course you will make new friends and discover more about other countries as well as Scotland. Lessons are all different and you will have fun learning new things. Our teachers are friendly and want to get to know you. At the end of each week, you will complete a project which you can keep and share with family and friends when you return home.
The CES junior syllabus aims to help young learners build confidence in their English abilities by activating their existing knowledge and developing their language skills. The CES junior programme uses different categories of topics to make learning fun and useful. The main topics are:
All about me
Out and about
The world around us
The course also includes other key features to develop students’ skills to communicate and understand the world outside of the classroom. These include:
Scottish culture
21st Century skills e.g. teambuilding and life skills
Project work and presentation skills
Study skills
Lessons looking at the places students visit as part of their social programme and language for interacting with their host families also form part of the course to connect all areas of the students’ time with CES.
Speaking is the main focus in the lessons, supported by activities that develop grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary. Students also practise listening, reading and writing skills.
You will also have project lessons! These project lessons are fun and mean you can be creative. Each week there will be a new project, and you will work in groups to learn and research about the topic. On Friday in the second lesson, you will present your information and watch your classmates as well!
